Summer can be the perfect occasion to improve your
English! You have more free time and you can use some of it to practise
and improve your English.
Practice
makes perfect!
What could you do to make the most of your summer
holidays? Here are some fun activities!
1. Watch videos on Youtube with subtitles
You can choose videos about topics, people, events,
subjects, arts, sports you are interested in.
2. Watch movies or TV series with
subtitles
3. Listen to podcasts or songs
You find a great deal of podcasts about so many topics
online! For example, on the website BBC English you find many
different ones with their transcripts. Then, you could
listen to songs and learn new words from their lyrics.
4. Read + listen!
There are materials in English to help you work on
reading and listening simultaneously. For example, graded readers with
audio CDs (from different publishers with a wide variety of genres)
or magazines with CDs like Speak Up (De
Agostini), or audiobooks.
5. Grammar revision
Create your own grammar book! Use colours, charts,
drawings, pictures, graphics, memes to organize your grammar notes from your
English lessons.
6. Keep a journal
Do you like keeping notes about the important
experiences/events in your life? Try to do it in English. You can start with
very simple sentences and short comments. It’s a great way to use the new
vocabulary you’ve been learning while watching, listening or reading
7. Native speakers
Are there any native speakers in your
town? Summer camps or drama clubs in English in your area? It’d be
great if there were, you could practise your speaking skills without travelling
abroad.
8. Travel abroad
If you are lucky enough to be able to travel to English - speaking countries and live there for a while, that's the best way to practise your skills and improve very quickly.
